Thoughts on Wokery

I think it was the monarch formerly known as Prince Charles who said that “woke” is just a pejorative used to revile the manifestation of empathy. Educated people oppose racism, sexism, femicide, homophobia, transphobia and cetera these days because we simply know better. I grew up in a parental environment in the 1970s and 80s where these prejudices were voiced unthinkingly, but during my lifetime they have not merely become unacceptable among my own generation — even my surviving parent now disavows them for the most part.
